The Stagecoach Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded by George R.R. Martin, has partnered with Netflix to host a two-part workshop titled the Acting for the Camera Series. This workshop, aimed at preparing New Mexico residents for careers in the film and television industry, will take place on October 25, 2023, at the Netflix Studios Actors Lab in Albuquerque.
Hands-On Training and Networking Opportunities
This immersive workshop offers participants hands-on experience with self-taping and features an exclusive panel discussion with local casting directors and talent agents. Such direct access to industry professionals is a rare opportunity for aspiring actors to gain insight and guidance in the competitive landscape of film and television.
Primarily intended for New Mexico residents, the workshop focuses on “Day Player” opportunities in television and film. Day players play a crucial role in production, working on a film set daily to fill in for absent crew members or provide additional support as needed. Candidates with a solid understanding of film production are encouraged to apply, as this knowledge significantly enhances their value on set.
A Stepping Stone to Acting Careers
The day player position offers flexibility as it allows individuals to work independently without being tied to long-term contracts. Participants may find themselves working for just one day, or if they impress the production team, potentially for the entire duration of a project. Furthermore, day players may also be cast in supporting roles, which can open doors to long-term contracts if their characters resonate with audiences.
Many successful actors credit their beginnings to day player roles, viewing them as a hidden pathway into the industry. This workshop is designed to help participants build their experience and establish valuable connections that can facilitate their entry into film and television.
Individuals interested in attending the workshop must apply by October 12, 2023, at 5 p.m. Following the main event, a series of follow-up classes will take place on November 1, 8, 22, and December 6. For further details and application information, visit stagecoachfdn.org.
