The highly anticipated trailer for the forthcoming late-night series, Neighbors, has been released, revealing its premiere date on HBO Max. Executive produced by Josh Safdie and A24, the series will debut on February 13, 2024, at 9 p.m. ET/PT, with new episodes airing weekly for a total of six episodes.
Exploring Real-Life Conflicts
“A new HBO and A24 late-night series, Neighbors examines stories of absurd, outrageous, and dramatic real-life residential conflicts from a wide range of larger-than-life characters across the United States,”
states the show’s synopsis. Filmed over two years by directors and emerging talents Harrison Fishman and Dylan Redford, the show immerses viewers in the lives of everyday Americans, exploring spirited disputes about property lines, animal ownership, and more.
The creators aim to present an unfiltered portrait of their subjects, delving into the fundamentally American pursuits of life, liberty, and property. Each episode introduces a new set of neighbors embroiled in their grievances, showcasing the humor and drama of these interactions.
Creators’ Vision
Fishman and Redford expressed their goals for the series through a statement from Warner Bros. Discovery. “Our first goal is to make our audience laugh. Second to that, we hope to offer a somewhat unique opportunity to see both sides of a real-life dispute. Not just because it’s funny and dramatic, but because wrestling with two competing yet valid truths hopefully evokes some small sense of empathy,” they noted.
They emphasize the idea that, in many of these conflicts, neither party is purely “bad” or “evil.” Instead, they highlight the complexities behind human interactions, suggesting that understanding the context of each dispute can foster empathy among viewers.
Alongside Safdie, the executive producing team includes Eli Bush, Ronald Bronstein, and JP Lopez Ali. As anticipation builds for its release, Neighbors promises to blend comedy and drama while reflecting on the intricate relationships within American neighborhoods.
