Mikayla Raines, a prominent YouTuber known for her work with the nonprofit organization SaveAFox, was remembered by family and friends during a heartfelt funeral service held on July 12, 2023. The 33-year-old passed away by suicide, prompting an outpouring of grief and tributes from those closest to her.

The service began with a moving rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” setting a poignant tone as Raines’ loved ones shared memories and reflections. Among those delivering eulogies was her husband, Ethan Frankamp, who announced her passing in an emotional YouTube video in June. In his message, Frankamp revealed that Raines had been a victim of alleged online bullying, which he believed contributed to her tragic decision.

Frankamp stated that Raines faced relentless negativity from individuals she considered friends. He noted that she struggled with autism, depression, and borderline personality disorder, which compounded her emotional challenges. “She felt as if the entire world had turned against her,” he remarked during his eulogy.

He expressed deep sorrow over her death, saying, “It breaks my heart that someone who is selfless and devoted her life to animals could have so much negativity pointed at her.” Frankamp also shared the harrowing experience of trying to save Raines, wishing that those who had hurt her could have witnessed the pain of her family during that difficult moment.

In the wake of Raines’ death, her husband made a commitment to continue her legacy through SaveAFox. The organization, co-founded by Raines and Frankamp in 2017, has garnered over two million followers on YouTube and aims to rescue fur farm foxes. “I will not let Mikayla’s light be extinguished,” he affirmed. “I’m going to continue to push to rescue the remaining fur farm foxes and, after that, save as many animals as possible.”

Raines’ mother, Sandi Raines, also spoke about her daughter’s struggles with online harassment, revealing that Mikayla had been navigating this issue for four years. Sandi claimed that the relentless bullying took a toll on her daughter, who was more focused on animal rescue than on internet fame. “It broke her,” she said.

Sandi provided insight into Mikayla’s final days, noting her recent rescue of 500 foxes, with 400 of them successfully rehomed. Despite her accomplishments, Mikayla felt overwhelmed by the remaining 100 foxes that still needed homes. “She was just beating herself up that she couldn’t find homes for the last hundred; it wasn’t quite fast enough,” Sandi explained.

The tragic passing of Mikayla Raines shines a light on the serious impact of online bullying and mental health struggles. Her legacy will continue through the efforts of SaveAFox, and her family hopes that her story encourages others to seek help and support.
