Lil Uzi Vert has officially embarked on a new chapter in their music career by signing a deal with Roc Nation Distribution. This significant agreement allows the artist to fully own their masters, marking a pivotal transition towards independence in the music industry. Uzi is now one of only three artists under Roc Nation Distribution, joining music legends Jay-Z and Rihanna.
In a statement, Krystian Santini, President of Roc Nation Distribution, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership. “Uzi is a global icon and a dynamic force in the music industry, so we’re thrilled to work together with them in this new capacity,” he stated. The collaboration aims to empower Uzi to further develop their legacy, ensuring they maintain full creative control while accessing the necessary resources to elevate their artistry.
To celebrate this new beginning, Uzi has released two singles titled “Chanel Boy” and “Relevant.” The latter track has drawn attention for its pointed lyrics, which many interpret as a response to a recent critique by fellow artist Nine Vicious, who suggested Uzi had “fallen off” earlier this year. In “Relevant,” Uzi raps:
“I know when it’s hate, I’m one with the Earth, I know all the elements / He thought he ate, my gun not a 9, it’s not not a lil’ elephant / I took off the hood just so it could breathe, my car is a hellaphant / How you say I’m irrelevant when I’m the reason these n****s is relevant?”
Uzi’s lyrics convey a strong message, asserting their continued relevance in the music scene. The artist previously addressed Nine Vicious’s comments during a heated social media rant in July, where they asserted, “Y’all talking ‘bout ‘I fell off too.’ Y’all lil’ ass boys, stop playing with me.”
The release of “Chanel Boy” and “Relevant” follows Uzi’s earlier project, Eternal Atake 2, which was launched in November 2022. This new phase for Uzi not only showcases their resilience but also highlights their determination to redefine their career on their own terms. The partnership with Roc Nation Distribution signifies a strategic move that could shape the future of Uzi’s music and influence within the industry.
