Hawke recalled the moment when Alfonso Cuarón, the film’s director, pitched the love scene. He humorously mimicked Cuarón’s enthusiasm, describing how the camera would capture intimate moments, suggesting that it would “go down your belly” and “then it’s going to go up your breasts.” Paltrow’s reaction was one of disbelief. “I was like, ‘Oh my god, my father’s going to have a heart attack,’” she said, reflecting on her concerns about how such a scene would be perceived by her family.
Paltrow’s firm stance on the matter was well-received by Hawke, who noted that she approached the situation with both conviction and grace.
