Residents of Marin County can look forward to a series of movie screenings this October, featuring a diverse selection of films that celebrate cultural heritage and stimulate important discussions. Film Screenings Highlight Latinx Heritage Month

The Marin County Free Library is hosting two notable screenings as part of its Latinx Heritage Month programming. The first is “Zoot Suit,” directed by Luis Valdez, which will be shown at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, at the Marin City Library, located at 164 Donahue St. in Marin City. This 1981 film, based on Valdez’s play, addresses the 1943 Zoot Suit Riots in Los Angeles. Admission is free, and more details are available at marinlibrary.org.

Following this, the library will present “Cesar Chavez,” a biographical film about the renowned labor activist, at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, at the Novato Library on 1720 Novato Blvd. It will also be screened again at 6 p.m. at the Marin City Library. Documentary and Family-Friendly Films Featured

In addition to the Latinx-themed films, a documentary titled “The Man Who Saves the World?” will screen at 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, at the Smith Rafael Film Center, located at 1118 Fourth St. in San Rafael. The film focuses on peace activist Patrick McCollum and includes a Q&A session with both McCollum and director Gabe Polsky. For families, the Civic Center Library will host a screening of A Minecraft Movie at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 1, at 3501 Civic Center Drive, room 427, in San Rafael. Admission is free, with additional details at marinlibrary.org.
