A man from Wethersfield, Connecticut, has made headlines after achieving a remarkable feat by setting a Guinness World Record for the largest collection of Crocs. Doogie Sandtiger, known as the “Croc King,” boasts an impressive collection of over 3,500 pairs, including custom designs for his dog. His journey into the world of Crocs began as a personal escape, transforming into a passionate pursuit.
Doogie Sandtiger has always believed in the importance of fun and self-expression. “This is what life is about,” he stated. “Life is about having fun, living — simple as that.” This philosophy guided him through his childhood, during which he faced significant challenges, including difficulties with basic skills like tying his shoes. Sandtiger recalled, “I was too embarrassed to ask the adults around me for help.”
His experiences in the foster care system made him aware of the gaps in learning that many children face. As a result, he sought a shoe that was easy to wear and found his answer in Crocs. They soon became his signature footwear, and he committed to wearing them exclusively.
Sandtiger’s fascination with Crocs evolved into a goal-oriented project. He initially aimed to collect 366 pairs, one for each day of the year, including leap years. After surpassing that target, he set his sights higher. “Break or set a Guinness World Record and be in the Guinness Book — which are two separate processes,” he explained.
To qualify for the record, Sandtiger learned he needed at least 1,000 pairs. He achieved this milestone and officially set the record in November 2024. The announcement was made this week in accordance with Guinness World Records guidelines. His collection was displayed in a local museum, showcasing the colorful array of Crocs he has amassed over the years.
In addition to the record, Sandtiger has plans to donate his World Record plaque, emphasizing his desire to share the joy that Crocs have brought him. He estimates spending several hundred thousand dollars on his collection and is eager to expand it further. His ultimate dream is to open a museum dedicated to Crocs, aptly named the “Crocsium.”
“Crocs are fun for everybody,” Sandtiger said, capturing the spirit behind his unusual yet inspiring collection. As he continues to share his passion, Sandtiger stands as a testament to the importance of finding joy in life’s simple pleasures.
