Judith Faye Graves, known affectionately as Judy, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on July 22, 1937, in Columbus, Ohio, she was a beloved member of her family and community, remembered for her unwavering commitment to public service and her deep connections with those around her.
Judy is survived by her sister, Carol (Robert) Parlette, and several cherished nieces and nephews, including Mike and Lee Oldfield, Holly (Shawn) Smith, and Heidi (Shane) Smith. She was also a dear friend and caregiver to Greg Fancher. Preceding her in death were her husband, Richard L. Graves, and her daughter, Pilar M. Graves, both of whom she cherished deeply.
A Life of Service and Community Engagement
A graduate of Ohio University, Judy was an active member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority, where she served as Vice President. It was during her time at university that she met her husband, Richard, leading to a life spent in Whittier, California, and later in La Mirada.
Judy’s professional life was marked by her dedication to the Buena Park Police Department, where she worked for over 20 years. She played a pivotal role as Secretary to the two Captains and the Professional Standards Sergeant, and she provided essential support to the Chief of Police. Her contributions earned her recognition and awards for her achievements, reflecting her commitment to the department and the community.
Judy was passionate about strengthening her communities, whether in Buena Park and La Mirada, California, or her hometown of McArthur, Ohio. Her ability to connect with people and foster relationships was evident to all who knew her.
Family, Legacy, and Memorial Contributions
Family gatherings were a highlight of Judy’s life, especially during the summers spent at their historic cabin in McArthur. These moments allowed her to relax and enjoy the company of friends and family, creating lasting memories that her loved ones will cherish.
