The Boston Lyric Opera has marked a significant milestone with the groundbreaking of its new arts space, the Opera + Community Studios, located at Midway Artist Studios in Boston’s Fort Point neighborhood. This initiative aims to create a vibrant environment for artists and community members to engage in creative activities.
Spanning 16,000 square feet, the new facility will serve as a hub for collaboration, education, and performance. According to Bradley Vernatter, General Director and CEO of the Boston Lyric Opera, the studios will accommodate over 800 artists and creative professionals employed by the company each year. The space is designed to foster connections among artists and community members, enhancing the cultural fabric of the city.
Funding and Future Plans
The project has garnered significant financial support, with more than $10 million raised toward its total goal of $11 million. Vernatter emphasized the importance of community involvement in the initiative, stating, “This space will not only serve our artists but also the broader community through educational programs and public gatherings.”
The completion of the Opera + Community Studios is anticipated by March 2026. The Boston Lyric Opera envisions this new venue as a critical component of its mission to enrich the arts scene in Boston and provide a platform for diverse artistic expressions.
As the renovation progresses, the Boston Lyric Opera looks forward to welcoming the community into this innovative space, further solidifying its commitment to the arts and community engagement.
