High school football teams across the region faced off in a series of thrilling matchups during Week 10, showcasing both intense rivalries and impressive individual performances. Notable games included the Acadiana Wreckin’ Rams defeating the Carencro Bears, and Lafayette Renaissance narrowly edging out Ascension Episcopal.

Acadiana Triumphs Over Carencro

In a tightly contested game, the Acadiana Wreckin’ Rams secured a 21-14 victory against the Carencro Bears. The win allowed Acadiana to clinch the outright district title in the 3-5A division. Acadiana’s standout player, Dion Simon, rushed for 115 yards and scored one touchdown, while Troy Kennerson added another touchdown with 66 yards on the ground.

On the other side, Carencro’s Christopher Baham led the rushing attack with 71 yards on 14 carries. Quarterback Carson Gurzi threw for 244 yards and two touchdowns, finding Chantz Babineaux for one of those scores. The victory improved Acadiana’s record to 7-3, while Carencro fell to 6-4.

Close Finish for Lafayette Renaissance

Lafayette Renaissance also had a nail-biting finish against Ascension Episcopal, winning by a narrow margin of 25-24. Jaydon Polk was a key contributor for Lafayette, rushing for 79 yards and a touchdown, while quarterback Kennan Brown completed 22 of 31 passes for 269 yards and three touchdowns.

Ascension Episcopal’s Branon Mitchell threw for 83 yards and two touchdowns, with Andre Abshire leading the rushing game with 86 yards. The victory allowed Lafayette Renaissance to finish the regular season with an impressive record of 8-2, while Ascension Episcopal ended at 9-1.

Other notable games included Teurlings Catholic finishing their regular season undefeated with a decisive 36-6 win over Northside, improving their record to 10-0. The Teurlings team showcased a robust defense and a dynamic offense, solidifying their status as contenders in the upcoming playoffs.

The Southside Sharks dominated New Iberia with a staggering score of 65-7. Justin Williams stood out with four touchdowns, contributing significantly to Southside’s record of 8-2.

In the final matchups, St. Thomas More achieved a resounding 55-7 victory over North Vermilion, concluding their regular season with a record of 7-3.

As the season progresses, teams are gearing up for playoffs, and the competition is expected to intensify.
