Vice President JD Vance is spending the weekend in Orange County, California, for family time, local officials confirmed on Friday afternoon. The Vice President’s visit has sparked interest, as he may be planning a trip to Disneyland, where temporary flight restrictions were implemented from March 15 to March 17, 2024.
Disneyland officials stated that security personnel are collaborating with their resort security team to prepare for an upcoming guest visit. While they declined to disclose any specific details regarding the identity of the guest, the heightened security measures have caught the attention of social media users.
Matt Desmond, known on Instagram as Disney Scoop Guy, posted a video highlighting a newly established staging area at the entrance to Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel. “They definitely have a staging area at the front of the Grand Californian and there’s a very heavy police presence here,” Desmond noted in his post.
Local Reactions to Vice President’s Visit
The Vice President’s office did not respond to requests for comment regarding his plans for the weekend, and no fundraising events have been announced. However, Orange County Supervisor Vicente Sarmiento acknowledged that Vance’s advance team was recently in the area. Sarmiento expressed hope that the Vice President would engage with local communities, especially in light of ongoing immigration enforcement efforts by the Trump administration.
“I welcome any policymaker to come to our community and see for themselves how hardworking our immigrant communities are and how they make our country great,” Sarmiento stated. “It is my hope that the administration would come to the table and work with us on reversing these policies that seemed designed to crush our communities and our state.”
Despite his respect for the office, Sarmiento voiced criticism of the administration’s policies, underscoring a significant divide between local leaders and federal immigration strategies.
Recent Activities of Vice President Vance
Vance has recently spent considerable time in Southern California. Last month, he visited Los Angeles on official business, where he supported the administration’s immigration raids and emphasized the ongoing military presence in the region. His activities included touring a multi-agency Federal Joint Operations Center and meeting with Marines deployed to the area.
More recently, he was in San Diego for fundraising events, including a dinner that cost $2,500 per seat, hosted by a conservative think tank. Earlier on the same Friday, Second Lady Usha Vance visited Camp Pendleton as part of the Blue Star Books program, which supports military children and base libraries.
Usha Vance, who grew up in the San Diego suburb of Rancho Peñasquitos, continues to engage with the community during her husband’s political activities.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump was in Texas on the same day to assess damage from devastating floods that have claimed at least 120 lives earlier this month, with many individuals still missing.
As Vice President Vance enjoys time with his family, progressive groups have organized protests against his visit in Anaheim, reflecting the tensions surrounding the administration’s immigration policies and the local community’s response.
