oklahoma-state-fair-draws-nearly-900-000-boosts-local-economy

The 2025 Oklahoma State Fair concluded on September 22, marking the end of an 11-day event that generated significant economic impact for Oklahoma City. The fair, consistently ranked among the best in the United States, brought in approximately $89 million in economic benefits last year.

The event featured notable new attractions, including the OG&E Coliseum, which hosted a variety of major events, and the newly installed 72-foot-tall Bolt Tower, commemorating the fair’s 118-year history. The coliseum showcased nine performances of Disney on Ice, a three-day PBR bull riding competition, and a concert by Trace Adkins. This venue was the first project completed under the MAPS 4 initiative, opening its doors to the public this summer.

Attendance at the fair averaged nearly 900,000 visitors, with around 25% traveling from outside the city. This influx of visitors not only contributed to the fairgrounds but also stimulated spending throughout Oklahoma City. Last year, the state fair was responsible for booking over 170,000 hotel rooms over its duration, contributing nearly $100 million in direct economic activity through hotel stays and other related purchases.

Improvements at the OKC Fairgrounds, which serves as a year-round venue for major events, trade shows, and livestock competitions, further enhanced the state’s economic boost. In addition to the State Fair, the fairgrounds hosts approximately 180 other shows annually, attracting more than 2.3 million visitors. This consistent activity positions the fairgrounds as one of Oklahoma City’s most crucial economic drivers, supporting tourism, small businesses, and community growth year-round.

The economic benefits derived from the Oklahoma State Fair are a cause for celebration, alongside the popular food offerings, including turkey legs and funnel cakes. As the rides and booths depart from the fairgrounds, their impact remains a vital part of the local economy, fostering anticipation for next year’s event.

Kenton Tsoodle, president of The Alliance for Economic Development of Oklahoma City, has emphasized the importance of the fair in supporting local businesses and enhancing community engagement. The excitement generated by this annual event continues to resonate within the community, promising a vibrant future for Oklahoma City’s economic landscape.
