komatsu-expands-operations-in-northern-california-after-dealer-closure

Global heavy equipment manufacturer Komatsu is revitalizing its presence in Northern California by acquiring the former Gee Heavy Machinery dealerships in Fresno and Sacramento. This expansion comes after Gee Heavy Machinery ceased operations in July 2023, following a detailed assessment of the business’s long-term viability.

Gee Heavy Machinery had previously been designated as the official Komatsu distributor for Northern California in December 2023, after taking over from the former distributor Core Machinery. Following its shutdown, the company filed notices with the state regarding the layoff of a total of 57 workers across its Sacramento headquarters and other locations, including Fremont, Redding, and Fresno. The Fresno facility, located at 5461 Nikita Ave., had a workforce of nine employees at the time of closure.

In a positive turn, both the Fresno and Sacramento locations are now operational again, staffed by Komatsu professionals, including many technicians who previously served the local customer base. This strategic move is designed to ensure that customers have access to reliable support and expertise.

Comprehensive Services and Expanded Inventory

With the reopening of these dealerships, Komatsu West will provide a full range of services, including sales, rentals, parts, and service capabilities. The aim is to maximize operational uptime and enhance productivity for customers in the region. As part of this initiative, an expanded inventory of pre-owned equipment is now available, featuring over 350 pieces ready for purchase at the new locations.

“Our focus is on supporting customers and helping them keep their operations running smoothly,” stated Todd Gaspers, Vice President of Operations for Komatsu West. “By expanding our operations into Northern California, we’re ensuring that customers have the local expertise, inventory, and service they depend on.”

Through this acquisition and expansion, Komatsu aims to strengthen its foothold in the Northern California market, providing essential services to the heavy equipment sector.
