americans-urged-to-claim-up-to-2-500-in-data-breach-settlement

Individuals affected by a significant data breach involving six insurance companies are being urged to submit their claims before the upcoming deadline. The settlement, orchestrated by Landmark Admin, centers on allegations that the company failed to adequately protect sensitive customer data while serving as a third-party administrator. Although Landmark Admin has not admitted any wrongdoing, it has agreed to a settlement of $6 million to resolve the claims and avoid potential litigation.

The data leak, which is reported to have occurred between May 13 and June 17, 2024, compromised sensitive information, including Social Security numbers, of customers from six prominent insurance companies. The affected companies are:

American Benefit Life Insurance Company
American Monumental Life Insurance Company
Capitol Life Insurance Company
Continental Mutual Insurance Company
Liberty Bankers Life Insurance Company
Accendo Insurance Company

Under the terms of the settlement, individuals who may have had their information compromised are eligible to claim compensation. Settlement administrators have notified those potentially affected by the breach. Claimants who have not received prior compensation may claim up to $2,500 if they can provide documented proof of out-of-pocket losses incurred as a result of the data leak, such as fraud or identity theft.

How to Submit a Claim

To successfully lodge a claim, individuals must present evidence of their financial loss. Acceptable forms of proof include bank statements, credit reports, or other relevant financial documents. For claimants unable to provide such documentation, a maximum of $30 can be claimed. However, this amount may fluctuate depending on the total number of valid claims received, as a larger number of claims will require the settlement fund to be divided among more individuals.

The deadline to file a claim for this settlement is December 26, 2024. Individuals who miss this deadline will forfeit their opportunity for compensation. Additionally, the deadline for objections to the settlement payout was November 25, 2024. A final approval hearing is scheduled for January 29, 2026, after which payments will be distributed.

For those wishing to file a claim, further information and submission options are available on the settlement website.
