Alabama Governor Kay Ivey has announced significant support for a new grocery store location in Daleville, marking an important expansion for the local convenience store chain, Robert’s Grocery. This new site will be the third for the chain in the Wiregrass area, joining existing locations in Wicksburg and Taylor.

On March 15, 2024, Governor Ivey informed Daleville Mayor Jayme Stayton that a $120,000 Community Development Block Grant had been approved for the city. This funding, in conjunction with an additional $53,000 from local sources, will facilitate the clearing of land situated along U.S. Highway 84 and Alabama Highway 85 to prepare for the new store.

Economic Impact and Job Creation

The addition of Robert’s Grocery in Daleville is expected to create approximately 15 new jobs, contributing to the local economy. Currently, the chain employs around 42 people across its two existing locations. Governor Ivey expressed optimism about the project, stating, “This grant will pave the way for an Alabama-born business to grow and prosper while providing additional jobs and commerce for the city of Daleville.”

The store will offer a variety of grocery items, deli-style foods, and fuel services, enhancing convenience for residents in the area. The expansion involves an estimated investment of $5.7 million, which underscores the commitment of Robert’s Grocery to the community.

Support from State Officials

Kenneth Boswell, Director of the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA), highlighted the broader benefits of the project. He noted, “The project is an opportunity for the city of Daleville to encourage a new business, improve access to grocery items for residents and provide additional revenue for the city.” ADECA will manage the grant funding, which is sourced from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The upcoming Robert’s Grocery store represents a significant milestone for Daleville, enhancing local shopping options while fostering economic growth. As the project progresses, it will not only provide essential services to the community but also bolster employment opportunities, further solidifying Daleville’s position in the region.
