UPDATE: In a stunning display of talent, Jakob Marsee delivered a historic performance for the Miami Marlins on August 1, 2023, hitting two home runs and driving in a franchise-record seven RBIs during their decisive 13-4 victory over the Cleveland Guardians.
Marsee, making his mark in his first major league action, electrified the crowd with a three-run homer in the first inning, followed by a pivotal two-run shot in the fifth, and capped off his night with a two-run double in the sixth. This remarkable feat ties him for the most RBIs in a single game for the Marlins, a record last achieved by Adam Duvall on April 13, 2021.
“It’s obviously an honor and super special,” Marsee said, reflecting on his record-breaking night. “But I mean, that stuff doesn’t really matter to me. I just want to win, so anything I can do to help the team win.”
The 24-year-old center fielder also showcased his speed by stealing second base and making a crucial sliding catch, robbing Steven Kwan of a hit in the third inning. Marsee’s family and friends were in attendance, adding to the emotional weight of the night. “It’s been a long journey,” he shared. “To have them here is everything to me.”
Since his call-up on August 1, Marsee has made a significant impact, reaching base in 10 of his first 12 games, with an impressive batting average of .436 (17-for-39), including three homers, 13 RBIs, and six stolen bases. His on-base percentage stands at .542, making him a key player to watch moving forward.
Marsee’s journey to this point has been remarkable. Selected by the San Diego Padres in the sixth round of the 2022 amateur draft from Central Michigan University, he was traded to Miami in the Luis Arraez deal in May 2024. Prior to his promotion, Marsee batted .246 with 14 homers and 47 steals over 98 games for Triple-A Jacksonville.
His first home run on Wednesday night traveled 403 feet at a blistering exit velocity of 105.4 mph. Marsee’s second home run, a two-run blast in the fifth, marked the hardest hit ball of his young career at 107.6 mph.
As the Marlins continue their season, all eyes will be on Jakob Marsee, who is proving to be a vital asset to the team. With his impressive performance, fans and analysts alike are eager to see how he will contribute in upcoming games.
