UPDATE: A murder suspect has been apprehended in Woodland Hills, California, following the discovery of his abandoned vehicle in Calabasas. Alexander Lee Rogers, aged 51, was arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department on October 3, 2023, just a day after his car was located, according to sources.

Rogers is wanted for the brutal stabbing of 73-year-old Andrew Peters and his sister-in-law, 64-year-old Dawn Peters, in Longview, Washington. The attack occurred last Tuesday, just before noon, at their family home. Tragically, Dawn succumbed to her injuries, while Andrew survived. Investigators believe the assault was unprovoked, sending shockwaves through the community.

“This is, like, unimaginable heartbreak. Every family member is devastated, everyone is grieving in a different way, so please, everybody, just pray for them,” expressed family friend Jill Nunes.

Authorities report that Rogers fled Washington state after the incident, driving over 1,000 miles to Southern California. Just two hours before the stabbing, police had an encounter with him over vehicle licensing issues in a parking lot, which was captured on bodycam footage. Capt. Brandon McNew of the Longview Police Department described the interaction as non-criminal, resulting in a verbal warning.

Rogers is said to have recently completed a 20-year prison sentence for attempted murder, stemming from a machete attack in the early 2000s. According to police, he had been working as a handyman for the Peters family, a connection stemming from an old family relationship.

On October 2, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies found a vehicle matching Rogers’ description parked near a hiking trail in the 23000 block of Calabasas Road. The swift action by the police has brought some relief to a grieving family still reeling from the tragedy.

“This is a horrific case,” Capt. McNew stated, emphasizing the unexpected nature of the violence. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities continue to seek information regarding Rogers’ actions leading up to the arrest.

As details unfold, this case remains a disturbing reminder of the impact of violence on families and communities. Those with information are urged to contact local law enforcement.
