Lockheed Martin is set to enhance its collaboration with the Philippines by establishing a cutting-edge research laboratory aimed at advancing technology development across multiple industries. This initiative follows a partnership with Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Texas, focusing on creating systems and prototypes to support the country’s growth in various sectors.

The new research facility will serve as a hub for Filipino professionals, enabling them to devise innovative solutions and prototypes. This effort is part of a broader strategy to deepen technical collaboration between Lockheed Martin, the Philippine government, and academic institutions. The company is also expanding its fighter jet project in the region.

Dr. Ben Zoghi, Dean for Advanced Studies and Industry Partnerships at SMU, emphasized that the planned initiatives will significantly enhance the Philippines’ academic and industrial landscape. He stated that this collaboration would provide the nation with “digital innovation technologies” crucial for boosting its economy and competitiveness in the global industrial sector.

Access to advanced tools and equipment at SMU is also part of the plan, along with fostering partnerships with local universities and businesses. This comprehensive approach includes business incubation funding, government initiatives, and educational programs designed to strengthen the capabilities of the Philippine workforce.

Jess Koloini, Director of Business Development at Lockheed Martin, highlighted that this program aims to elevate the Philippines’ defense aspirations while aligning with the company’s broader goals of developing new capabilities and intellectual property through strategic collaborations.

As this initiative unfolds, it promises to create a dynamic environment for research and development, ultimately benefiting both the local economy and the broader industrial ecosystem in the Philippines.
