OpenAI has initiated a groundbreaking partnership with the US General Services Administration (GSA) to provide its ChatGPT Enterprise model to the federal workforce for an annual fee of just $1. This initiative aims to enhance the adoption of the AI chatbot across various government agencies, making advanced technological tools more accessible to public servants.

Earlier this week, the GSA, which oversees centralized procurement for the US government, confirmed the addition of OpenAI, along with Anthropic and Google, to its approved list of AI providers. By offering ChatGPT Enterprise at a nominal fee, OpenAI intends to facilitate broader access to AI capabilities, empowering federal employees to streamline their work processes.

The $1 offer will be available for the next year and includes an extended 60-day period during which users can access advanced features without restrictions. OpenAI has also established a dedicated community for government users, aiming to foster confidence in AI utilization. Custom training platforms and guided learning resources will support federal employees in effectively engaging with the technology.

Enhancing Efficiency in Public Service

OpenAI stated that this initiative aligns with a core objective of the Trump Administration’s AI Action Plan, which seeks to make powerful AI tools widely available within the federal government. The goal is to reduce time spent on administrative tasks, allowing public servants to focus on their primary mission: serving the American people.

In its commitment to security, OpenAI assured that ChatGPT Enterprise will not use business data—whether inputs or outputs—to train or improve its models. This guarantee extends to federal applications of the software, reinforcing the safeguards in place for sensitive government information. The GSA has officially issued an Authority to Use (ATU) for ChatGPT Enterprise, underscoring its dedication to maintaining rigorous security and compliance standards.

Growing Adoption Among Government Agencies

Since the beginning of 2024, over 90,000 users from more than 3,500 federal, state, and local government agencies have utilized ChatGPT, sending over 18 million messages to assist in their daily operations. This significant uptake highlights the increasing reliance on AI technologies to enhance productivity and efficiency in public service.

As OpenAI continues to expand its presence in the federal sector, the collaboration with the GSA marks a significant milestone in the integration of AI into governmental processes. By offering ChatGPT Enterprise at such an accessible price, OpenAI is poised to reshape how federal employees interact with technology in their roles, ultimately aiming to improve service delivery to citizens across the United States.
