UPDATE: Cleveland Guardians All-Star outfielder Steven Kwan is officially out of the lineup for tonight’s game against the Athletics due to persistent right wrist soreness. This news comes just hours before the game, putting fans on alert regarding Kwan’s health status.

Manager Stephen Vogt confirmed that Kwan’s situation is day-to-day and noted he has been struggling with wrist issues for over a month. Kwan previously exited a game on May 28 against the Los Angeles Dodgers due to wrist inflammation.

After a stellar performance in the All-Star Game on Tuesday night, where Kwan hit an infield single that tied the game, he consulted with doctors the following day and received an injection to address the ongoing pain. This is only the sixth game Kwan has missed this season, during which he has recorded a batting average of .285, six home runs, and 32 RBIs.

“We encouraged him to go play in the All-Star Game. He earned the right. We knew this was coming,” said Vogt, emphasizing the team’s support for Kwan despite his injury challenges.

Meanwhile, the Guardians are also keeping an eye on other players. Pitcher Shane Bieber is set to make his next rehab start on Tuesday for either Triple-A Columbus or Single-A Lake County. Bieber, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery in April 2024, showcased impressive form with two scoreless innings and five strikeouts in his recent outing.

In addition, infielder Gabriel Arias has begun a rehab assignment with Triple-A Columbus after recovering from a sprained left ankle sustained on June 29. Right-hander Nic Enright has been recalled from Columbus following the placement of Paul Sewald on the 15-day injured list due to a right shoulder strain.

Fans are also excited about the return of prospect Travis Bazzana, the No. 1 overall pick from last year’s amateur draft. He has been activated off the injured list by Double-A Akron after missing two months due to an oblique strain, with stats reflecting a batting average of .252, four home runs, 17 RBIs, and eight stolen bases in 33 games.

This developing situation with Kwan adds to the tension surrounding the Guardians as they navigate player injuries and prepare for tonight’s game against the Athletics. Stay tuned for more updates as the team works to manage their roster effectively.
