Gillis expressed enthusiasm about the role, stating, “I’m excited to be at The ESPYS this year. I like sports so this should be a good time.” His selection as host was officially announced in June by Craig Lazarus, ESPN’s vice president and executive producer of the ESPYS, who highlighted Gillis’s status as a top comedian and a dedicated sports fan.
The event will be broadcast live on ABC and will be available for streaming on ESPN+. For those unable to watch live, the ceremony will also be accessible on Disney+ and Hulu the following day.
Awards and Honorees
Among the highlights of the evening will be the presentation of several prestigious awards. Basketball Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson will receive the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage, while Katie Schumacher-Cawley, head coach of the Penn State University women’s volleyball team, will be honored with the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance. Additionally, the Pat Tillman Award for Service will be awarded to Greater Los Angeles first responders and former athlete Erin Regan.
Recognized for their remarkable contributions, both Diana Taurasi and Alex Morgan will receive the Icon Award, further emphasizing the significance of female athletes in the current sports landscape.

The ESPYS will also feature musical performances from notable artists, including Grammy-nominated rapper Busta Rhymes, hip-hop duo Clipse, and rapper GELO. An emotional in memoriam tribute will be presented by Grammy-nominated artist Tobe Nwigwe, alongside David Michael Wyatt, honoring those who have made significant impacts in the sports community.
