Liverpool FC has announced temporary shirt numbers for its new signings ahead of a pre-season friendly against Preston North End on Sunday. The club’s latest recruits, including Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, and Jeremie Frimpong, will wear these provisional numbers until their official squad digits are confirmed later this summer.

The Reds have been active in the transfer market, making it challenging for the kit department to finalize shirt assignments. Unlike other clubs that typically announce a player’s squad number upon signing, Liverpool has chosen a different approach. This decision has been prompted by the upcoming trip to Deepdale, which provides fans with their first opportunity to see the new players in action.

Temporary Assignments for New Players

Liverpool has allocated six temporary numbers to its summer signings, rather than assigning permanent digits before the transfer window closes. The three new goalkeepers—Giorgi Mamardashvili, Freddie Woodman, and Armin Pecsi—will wear numbers 55, 56, and 60, respectively.

In addition, Kerkez has been assigned the number 57, Wirtz will wear 58, and Frimpong has been given 59. It is unlikely that any of these players will retain their temporary numbers once the formal squad list for the 2025–26 season is published.

Changes in shirt numbers are anticipated, especially with the potential departure of players. For instance, if Luis Díaz completes a long-speculated transfer, Wirtz could be assigned the iconic number 7 jersey, which is currently held by a departing player.

Future Number Assignments and Expectations

Several other numbers are available for reassignment, including 6, 12, 13, 15, 16, 23, 24, 28, and 29. While uncertainty surrounds the final numbers for Wirtz and Kerkez, Frimpong is expected to retain the number 30 shirt, which he has worn for the last five seasons at Bayer Leverkusen. For now, he will stick with the temporary number 59 during Liverpool’s pre-season fixtures.

This temporary assignment of shirt numbers reflects Liverpool’s busy transfer period and the logistical challenges of integrating new players into the team before the official start of the season. Fans eagerly await the official assignments, which are likely to generate significant excitement as the new season approaches.
