The exhibition titled Living Collection: Works on Paper by Jason Eisner is currently on display at St. Ambrose University’s Morrissey Gallery in Davenport, Iowa. Visitors can view the exhibition until April 24, 2024, showcasing the artist’s vibrant works inspired by his daily life and artistic experiences. Eisner’s pieces capture moments of creativity, often sketched during breaks or while enjoying nature.
Eisner, who was born and raised in Illinois, has spent the last 30 years in New York City. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree from Knox College and a Painting Certificate from the renowned New York Studio School in Manhattan. His current role as a Master Pruner and Horticulturalist at the Green-Wood Cemetery and Arboretum in Brooklyn informs his artistic vision. This expansive 500-acre cemetery, home to over 8,000 trees, shrubs, and plants, serves as a living canvas for Eisner’s creativity.
The exhibition raises profound questions about the nature of artistry, asking, “When does one become an artist? When does an artist make art?” For Eisner, the answer lies in his lifelong dedication to drawing and painting. Even as his career shifts outdoors, he continues to embody the role of an artist, seizing every opportunity to create amidst his professional and personal commitments.
Visitors can explore the Living Collection at the Morrissey Gallery, located in the lobby of the Galvin Fine Arts Center. The gallery is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and admission is free.
