As noted by head coach Kenny Atkinson, the Cavaliers were performing well before these acquisitions, achieving a 13-5 record leading up to the trades. Since then, they have maintained their momentum, winning their last four games.
Atkinson emphasized the importance of leadership in the team’s turnaround. “We got healthier and we also embraced the struggle of not playing well,” he said, highlighting the calm demeanor of players like Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley, which helped keep the team focused.
The Cavaliers have seen a noticeable rise in the performance of Jarrett Allen, who has stepped up significantly in the absence of Mobley due to a calf injury. Over the past seven games, Allen has averaged an impressive 21.6 points and 10.9 rebounds, shooting an astounding 76% from the field. Atkinson remarked, “J.A. has been the best center in the league,” since Mobley’s injury, with players even dubbing him “Wilt” as a nod to Hall of Famer Wilt Chamberlain.
Despite Mobley’s absence, the Cavaliers have thrived, holding a 6-1 record during this period. Allen’s versatility has been crucial, especially as he is one of the few starter-level big men on the roster. The team is 9-4 without Mobley this season, showcasing Allen’s pivotal role.
