Los Angeles Kings goaltender Darcy Kuemper has been cleared to return to the ice after recovering from a neck injury sustained during a recent game against the New York Rangers. The incident occurred on March 5, 2024, when Kuemper collided with an opposing player in the first period, causing him to leave the game.
The injury initially left Kuemper feeling numb in his arm. “Yeah, kind of got hit on the side of my neck, and it pinched my neck and pinched the nerves, and my arm went dead,” he explained. Following further testing, he received the green light to participate in the upcoming road trip for the Kings.
Kuemper, who is a first-time Olympian, is set to represent Canada in the upcoming Olympic Games. Canada has previously secured gold medals in the last two Olympics, showcasing a strong roster of NHL players. In the team, Kuemper is expected to serve as the third goaltender behind Jordan Binnington and Thompson.
This season, the 35-year-old has played in 32 games, recording a record of 12 wins, 9 losses, and 9 overtime losses, with a goals-against average of 2.52 and a save percentage of .904. His performance has been vital for the Kings, particularly after missing six games in December due to another upper-body injury incurred on December 15, 2023.
The Kings are looking forward to Kuemper’s return as they continue their pursuit of a strong playoff position. His experience and skills in goal will be crucial as the team heads into a challenging schedule.
