Enosburg junior Sawyer Bentley showcased his skills with a remarkable performance, scoring 33 points in the Hornets’ 52-46 victory over Lyndon on January 6, 2026. Bentley’s consistent contributions on both offense and defense have been pivotal to the team’s success during the current basketball season.
Team Chemistry and Hard Work Fuel Success
In a recent interview, Bentley attributed the Hornets’ achievements to their strong team chemistry. “I feel like hard work during practice and having really good team chemistry, everyone being friends on and off the court, has contributed to our team’s success,” he explained. This camaraderie has fostered a collaborative environment where players support each other, both on and off the court.
Coaching staff, led by Wyatt Larose, has also played a significant role in shaping the program’s culture. Bentley noted that the coaches emphasize hard work and maintain a positive atmosphere, ensuring that the team remains focused and motivated, even during challenging seasons. “The coaches have helped shape the culture by always making us work hard, caring for us, and never giving up during those losing seasons,” he said.
Goals for the Future
As the season progresses, Bentley and his teammates have set ambitious goals. “I know we can make a far playoff run, and I would like to make it to the AUD and win the championship,” he stated. Bentley’s aspirations reflect the confidence shared among the Hornets, who are determined to build on their strong performance.
Coach Larose has praised Bentley’s development as a player and leader. “Sawyer is a crucial part of our program, and he has set the example of what it means to be a Hornet,” Larose remarked. His journey from a freshman soaking in the experience to a key scorer—averaging 17 points per game last season—demonstrates his growth. This year, Bentley has expanded his skill set, becoming an all-around player with improved defensive and rebounding abilities.
His teammates have recognized Bentley’s leadership, electing him as one of the team captains. “As a coach, you can’t say enough about what he brings to the team. He is coachable, driven, hardworking, and a pleasure to have on the team,” Larose added.
The Hornets continue to build momentum as they navigate the 2025-2026 season, with Bentley leading the charge. Fans and fellow players alike are eager to see how far this talented group can go, especially with such a dedicated and skilled athlete at the forefront.
