Google has launched a new feature in beta for its Gemini chatbot, enabling personalized interactions using data from various Google applications. Available in the United States, this opt-in feature aims to enhance user experience by tailoring responses based on information from services such as Gmail, Photos, YouTube, and Search.
Enhancing User Experience with Personal Intelligence
With the introduction of this feature, known as Personal Intelligence, users can expect Gemini to deliver responses that are more relevant to their individual needs. The chatbot can now leverage data from text, photos, and videos found in other Google apps. For example, it could assist a user in selecting the appropriate tires for a minivan by analyzing photos from past road trips. Gemini demonstrates capabilities such as identifying license plates in images and retrieving specific vehicle details from emails, further showcasing its potential for personalized assistance.
Previously, Gemini had the ability to connect with other Google apps through an extension system, which was established when the chatbot was originally named Google Bard. The latest iteration, powered by the Gemini 3 model, enhances this capability significantly.
Rollout and User Control
The new feature will be gradually rolled out to eligible subscribers of Google AI Pro and AI Ultra over the next week. Once the feature is activated, users will need to select which Google apps they wish to connect to Gemini. Importantly, these connections can be disabled at any time, allowing for user control over their data.
Google has emphasized that while Personal Intelligence is designed to improve user experience, it also prioritizes privacy. The company stated, “Our goal is to improve your experience while keeping your data secure and under your control.” The AI does not directly train on personal data from Gmail or Google Photos, instead relying on limited information, such as specific prompts and responses, to enhance its functionality over time.
Users will have the ability to correct the chatbot if it provides incorrect information and can also request responses without the personalization feature. This interactive approach is intended to foster a more engaging and user-friendly experience.
Looking ahead, Google plans to expand the availability of Personal Intelligence to free users and additional countries. The company also noted that this feature will be integrated into the AI Mode in search soon.
Currently, Personal Intelligence is exclusively available for paying subscribers with personal Google accounts, marking a significant step forward in the customization of AI interactions.
