A woman with an outstanding warrant was apprehended by the Wilmington Police following a reported daytime burglary on January 6, 2024. According to the Wilmington Police Department, a member of the Special Operations Division was in the 800 block of North Shipley Street around 09:39 when they were alerted to the incident.
After receiving a description of the suspect from witnesses, the officer promptly initiated a search of the surrounding area. Within a short time, the officer identified a woman fitting the description in the 100 block of Burton Place. The individual was confirmed to be 40-year-old Emily Popkey, who was subsequently taken into custody without incident.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
Popkey faces charges of third-degree burglary and theft of less than $1,500. In addition to these allegations, she was already wanted on an outstanding warrant. Following her arrest, she was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 20 and is currently being held at the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on a secured bail of $4,000.
Authorities have emphasized that the charges against Popkey are allegations, and she is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
