UPDATE: The highly anticipated 23rd annual Cover Your Acres Winter Conference is set to take place on January 20-21, 2024, at the Gateway Civic Center in Oberlin, Kansas. This essential gathering for producers, consultants, and agricultural experts promises to address urgent topics in agriculture economics and management.

Just announced: The conference will feature expert presentations on crucial issues including weed management, soil fertility, and economic strategies that are top-of-mind for farmers today. Stacy Campbell, K-State Extension and Cottonwood District Crop Production Agent, emphasized the pressing need for these discussions. “Weed management, soil fertility — and economics, of course — are always on farmers’ minds,” Campbell stated.

Attendees can look forward to insights from K-State weed management specialist Sarah Lancaster and KSU NW Agronomist Jeanne Falk Jones, who will focus on innovative weed management techniques, including targeted herbicide applications and cropping rotations specific to Kansas. The agenda also includes a session on “Meeting Crop Nutrient Needs in Lean Economic Times” and a discussion titled “How the Crop Markets Have Affected Producers,” featuring K-State specialists Dorivar Ruiz-Diaz and Dan O’Brien.

In addition, Roger McEowen, a nationally renowned Ag Law and Taxation specialist from Washburn University and KS Farm Bureau, will reveal the “Top Five Legal Issues Farmers Don’t Think About, But Should.” This is a must-attend for any producer looking to safeguard their business in these challenging times.

Another highlight will be Jennifer Ifft, K-State specialist in Ag Policy, who will provide vital information on “Navigating the 2026 Crop Insurance Decisions with SCO and ECO.” Furthermore, Lucas Haag, K-State Agronomist-In-Charge, and Augustine Obour, K-State Soil Scientist, will discuss the benefits of intensifying crop rotations and incorporating forages into dryland farming.

Participants can attend both days to maximize their learning opportunities, with sessions running from 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The program offers continuing education credits for Certified Crop Advisors and CEUs for Commercial Applicators.

Registration is open now, with fees set at $60 for Tuesday and $55 for Wednesday, or $80 for both days if registered before January 14. After this date, the cost increases to $80 per day. The registration fee includes lunch, refreshments, and educational materials.
