construction-starts-on-7-5-million-towneplace-suites-in-st-joseph

Construction has officially begun on a new $7.5 million TownePlace Suites hotel at 1401 N. Woodbine Road in St. Joseph, Missouri. This four-story hotel, featuring 129 rooms, is being developed on a 4.7-acre site situated north of the Stoney Creek Hotel. City officials anticipate the hotel will be completed by 2026.

The initial phases of construction have progressed rapidly, with foundation and underground utility work already finished. According to Nathan Pare, Director of Planning and Community Development, the next step involves framing the structure. This project is part of a broader initiative to enhance the hospitality offerings in the area.

In April 2024, the St. Joseph City Council approved a measure to accept funding from the developer for necessary building plan review services. The property is owned by Altira St. Joe Hotel LLC, which is committed to improving the local infrastructure and providing more accommodation options.

The new TownePlace Suites is expected to include a variety of amenities. Guests can look forward to a breakfast area, a fitness center, an indoor pool, and an outdoor patio. The hotel chain currently operates over 500 locations across the United States and Canada, with several existing hotels in the Kansas City area.

This project is just one of three major hotel developments underway or planned in St. Joseph. A separate $60 million initiative on Frederick Avenue will introduce two large hotels and a new conference center, adding nearly 250 new rooms to the local hospitality landscape. Additionally, a $5.1 million WoodSpring Suites hotel and conference center is also being developed along South Belt Highway, further expanding the region’s accommodation possibilities.

As the construction of the TownePlace Suites progresses, local officials and residents alike are optimistic about the potential economic benefits these new developments are expected to bring to St. Joseph and its surrounding areas.
