James V. “Jim” Gearhart passed away on December 27, 2025, at the age of 80. He died peacefully at the Fellowship Community in Whitehall, Pennsylvania, leaving behind a legacy of dedication to family and community. Jim was married to Carol (Mann) Gearhart for 48 years.

Born on May 15, 1945, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Jim was the son of the late Vernon and Elinor (Heck) Gearhart. His academic journey began at John Harris High School, where he graduated as valedictorian. He later pursued a bachelor’s degree in history from Haverford College, setting the stage for a distinguished career in education.

After dedicating 30 years to Kutztown University as the Chief Budget Officer, Jim retired, leaving a significant impact on the institution. His contributions were not solely professional; he was a multifaceted individual with a passion for reading, travel, and photography. He cherished family vacations at Stone Harbor, New Jersey, and enjoyed watching sports.

Jim was an active member of the Cedar Crest Bible Fellowship Church in Allentown, where he fostered connections with the community.

A Cherished Family Man and Community Pillar

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Carol, and two daughters, Diana J. Blackford and her husband, Ty, of Sidney, Ohio, and Amy E. Wesner and her husband, Eric, of Bethel. He was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Simon, Anderson, and Eva Blackford and Jamie and Paul Wesner. Jim was predeceased by his brother, John Gearhart.

A service to honor Jim’s life will take place at 11:00 a.m. on January 3, 2026, at the Zentz Community Center located at 3000 Fellowship Drive, Whitehall, on the Fellowship Community Campus. The service will be officiated by Rev. Carl Fischer, Jr.. Friends and relatives are invited to gather from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.

Following the ceremony, a private interment will be held at Laureldale Cemetery in Reading. The arrangements have been entrusted to the Heintzelman-Stephens Funeral Home, P.C. Those wishing to express their condolences can do so through the funeral home’s website at www.heintzelmanstephens.com.
