Tamar Bates, a two-way guard for the Denver Nuggets, will be sidelined for at least 12 weeks following surgery for a fractured left foot, the team confirmed on November 6, 2023. The 22-year-old rookie, who has primarily played with the Grand Rapids Gold, the Nuggets’ G League affiliate, has been making significant strides this season.

Bates has been impressive during his time with the Gold, averaging 19.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. His shooting percentages have also been notable, with a field goal percentage of 55.6% and 43.3% from beyond the arc. The Gold currently holds an 11-5 record this season, showcasing their competitive edge in the league.

The rookie’s absence will impact the Nuggets, who are navigating a challenging schedule. Bates is one of three players on two-way contracts, which allows him to participate in both NBA regular-season games and G League competitions. His injury comes at a time when the team is dealing with other significant roster issues.

In addition to Bates, the Nuggets have two other two-way players: Curtis Jones, a rookie from Iowa State, and Spencer Jones, a second-year forward who has managed to secure a role in the starting lineup while Aaron Gordon recovers from a hamstring injury.

The Nuggets’ head coach, David Adelman, is also facing challenges as he adapts to injuries within the roster. Recently, he was fined $35,000 after being ejected during a game against the Houston Rockets, further complicating the team’s situation.

As the Nuggets look to maintain their competitive edge, the focus will shift to how they can fill the gaps left by Bates and other injured players. The team will need to rely on the depth of its roster and the development of its young talents as the season progresses.
