Steven Andrew Kovacs, age 73, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025, surrounded by family after a courageous two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Known for his vibrant personality and love for music, Kovacs had a significant impact as both an educator and musician.

Kovacs enjoyed a fulfilling career in sales and teaching at Dakota Tech, where he inspired countless students. His passion for music began in his childhood home and blossomed throughout his life. He was a dedicated member of the White Bear Lake High School choir and contributed to liturgical music. Over the years, Kovacs formed several bands, including The Four Coachmen, 1st Things 1st, and JS Trio, sharing his love of music with the community.

In addition to his musical pursuits, Kovacs had a passion for woodworking and sports, particularly golf. He cherished moments spent at his lake home with his wife, Deb. Their relationship was a cornerstone of his life, providing joy and companionship.

Kovacs is preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth Kovacs. He is survived by his wife, Deb; sons, Andrew and Patrick (Megan); grandchildren, Casey and Dylan; sisters, Gail Ward, Sue Pearson, and Jody Jarvis; and brother, John Kovacs. The family extends a special thank you to Jody Jarvis for her dedicated support in assisting Deb with Steve’s home hospice care leading up to his passing.

Celebration of Life Planned

A celebration of Kovacs’ life is scheduled for 2 p.m. on January 6, 2026, with visitation one hour prior, at the Starkson Family – Anderson Chapel, located at 14850 Garrett Avenue, Apple Valley, MN 55124.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to a donor’s choice or to the St. Scholastica Convent through their website at www.sbm.osb.org.

Kovacs leaves behind a legacy of music, education, and love that will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who knew him.
