UPDATE: In a thrilling showdown, the Vancouver Canucks edged past the Boston Bruins 5-4 on Saturday night, thanks to Liam Ohgren‘s decisive shootout goal. This victory marks the Canucks’ fourth consecutive win, intensifying their momentum as the NHL season heats up.

Ohgren emerged as the shootout hero, scoring the only goal in a tense seven-round shootout. Earlier, he had also tipped in a crucial tiebreaking goal at 7:34 of the third period, showcasing his clutch performance on the ice. The game took a dramatic turn when Andrew Peeke’s shot ricocheted off the post and deflected into the net off goalie Kevin Lankinen, leveling the score at 4-all, with just 3:44 left in regulation.

The Canucks’ scoring was fueled by Linus Karlsson, who netted two goals, and Max Sasson, who also contributed a crucial score. Lankinen, making his first appearance since December 8, 2023, delivered an impressive 38 saves, putting an end to his personal six-game losing streak.

For the Bruins, Morgan Geekie continued his stellar season, marking his 25th goal of the year, while Pavel Zacha and Tanner Jeannot added to the scoreboard. Boston’s goaltender Jeremy Swayman managed 18 saves in the contest.

The game was a rollercoaster of emotions, with Vancouver initially taking a 2-1 lead when Karlsson redirected a shot into the net just 4:22 into the second period. The Bruins quickly retaliated, with Zacha capitalizing on an open net to tie the game at 2-2. Jeannot then scored with a powerful one-timer at 12:05 of the second period, giving Boston a temporary advantage.

However, Karlsson’s persistence paid off as he scored again early in the third period, tying the game at 3-3. Just as the Canucks seemed to struggle after being outshot 13-3, Sasson found the back of the net to make it 4-4.

With this victory, the Canucks are set to close out their five-game road trip against the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday night. Meanwhile, the Bruins will look to bounce back as they host the Ottawa Senators on Sunday night.

“It was a hard-fought game, and we showed resilience to come back,” Ohgren commented after the match.

Stay tuned for further updates as both teams continue their campaigns in this tightly contested NHL season.
