Charles “Chuck” John Zegoski, aged 84, passed away unexpectedly on December 3, 2025. Born on July 14, 1941, in Cadillac, Michigan, he was the son of Joseph F. Zegoski and Ethyl Johnson Zegoski. Chuck was known for his dedication and work ethic, traits that defined both his personal and professional life.
After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, he embarked on a lengthy career with General Electric, where he contributed significantly until his retirement. Beyond his professional achievements, Chuck was passionate about hands-on projects. He devoted countless hours to enhancing his family’s cottage in Benona, a project he cherished deeply.
Chuck’s commitment to helping others extended into his community service. He volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, assisting in building homes for those in need, and contributed his time at the Trinity Lutheran Food Pantry. His generosity was not limited to physical acts; Chuck had a unique ability to connect with others through his humor. Those who knew him recall his silent laugh, characterized by bouncing shoulders and flushed cheeks, which revealed his joy in simple moments.
A man of practical wisdom, Chuck offered assistance in ways that often required more action than words. He preferred to fix things for friends rather than simply share a cup of coffee, embodying his philosophy of caring for others. While he was not a regular churchgoer, Chuck’s Catholic faith remained a guiding force in his life, reflected in his daily actions. His approach to life was one of compassion and kindness, consistently striving to meet the needs of those around him.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 58 years, Andrea K. Zegoski, and their three children: Kathryn A. Zegoski, Lynda S. Zegoski, and Jean M. Pettengill. He also leaves behind six grandchildren: Jonathon Zegoski, Asher Pettengill, Lacey Zegoski, Rea Pettengill, Charles Pettengill, and Zander Pettengill, as well as two great-grandchildren, Anthony Zegoski and Rowan Zegoski.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his biological mother, Lucy Weatherwax, and siblings, Pete and Marcy Zegoski. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial contributions to be made to Habitat for Humanity in Chuck’s honor at [https://secure.habitat.org](https://secure.habitat.org). Following his wishes, cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are being handled by Harris Funeral Home in Shelby, Michigan. Chuck Zegoski’s legacy of kindness, hard work, and community spirit will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
