URGENT UPDATE: As finals week intensifies, students at Chico State are finding relief in creative outlets. Earlier today, the Cross-Cultural Leadership Center hosted a de-stress event, allowing students to decorate quilt squares and enjoy hot ramen, just days before the semester wraps up.

The gathering, held on December 9, 2025, kicked off a vital break for students feeling the weight of impending exams. Program Coordinator Jojo Carranza emphasized the importance of such events in providing a mental escape. “We’re kind of having a de-stress day,” Carranza stated. “Finals are coming up, so we thought something nice, warm, and cozy to eat would be cool, along with a little creative crafting event to help ease the mind.”

Students engaged in the activity, choosing vibrant colors for their quilt tiles and personalizing them with various art supplies. This initiative not only offered a brief respite but also fostered connections among students, creating a sense of community as winter break approaches.

Carranza highlighted the center’s commitment to hosting multiple events throughout the academic year, aiming to cultivate a supportive atmosphere on campus. “What we like to do is bring students together,” she explained. “We want to help build connections and culture within each other, ensuring everyone feels included and has a home away from home.”

The event reflects a growing trend among universities to prioritize student well-being during high-stress periods. With finals looming, such creative outlets are essential for mental health, allowing students to recharge and refocus.

As finals week continues, students are encouraged to seek out similar gatherings that promote relaxation and community spirit. Authorities at Chico State are actively promoting these initiatives, paving the way for a balanced approach to academic pressure.
