Alfred Garr Jones, aged 81, passed away on December 7, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of humor, hard work, and community service in his hometown of Chesapeake, Virginia. Known for his quick wit and strong work ethic, Jones was a beloved figure, especially among the members of the Woodland Heights Baptist Church where he was an active participant.

Jones’s professional journey began after completing his education at Princess Anne High School. He undertook a trade apprenticeship with E. Calagari & Sons, where he honed his skills in wallpaper hanging. His reputation attracted clients from all backgrounds, including individuals, interior decorators, and businesses.

In addition to his work in the trades, Jones spent over a decade at Cavalier Mazda, where he formed lasting friendships. His commitment to community service was evident during the 1970s and 1980s when he served as a volunteer police officer with the Chesapeake Auxiliary Police Unit, demonstrating his dedication to public safety and service.

Jones had a passion for music that began in high school, where he played the trumpet and sang with the Madrigal Singers. His talent led him to perform at prestigious venues, including the Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach, and he later joined the Eastern Virginia All-State Chorus. His love for music continued throughout his life, as he participated in the Commodore Chorus, known for its barbershop quartet performances, and the Virginia Beach Chorale, where he shared traditional music with audiences.
