Edward Eugene Hosey Jr., known affectionately as Ned, passed away unexpectedly on November 26, 2025, at the age of 78 due to ongoing health issues. His family and friends are left to remember a man who made a significant impact on their lives and the broader community.
Ned’s legacy includes his father, Attorney Edward Hosey, and his mother, Marie B. Hosey, as well as his sister Catherine Hosey and brother Michael Hosey, all of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his three sons: Edward E. Hosey III and his wife Denise, Richard Jeffrey Hosey, and David Gilroy Hosey alongside his wife Kat. The family also includes grandchildren Evelyn, Hannah, Connor, and Gil Hosey, as well as his sister Patricia Kosloski. Ned’s uncle, Andrew Jack Barry, nieces Colleen Roundhill and Leigh Thering, and grandnephews River and Owen Thering also mourn his passing, alongside many close friends, including his partner of over 30 years, Carol Sorber.
A Life Rich in Achievement and Community Service
Born and raised in Plymouth, Pennsylvania, Ned graduated from St. Vincent’s High School in 1965. He was known for his athleticism, participating actively in sports throughout his youth. Notably, he played as a pitcher in both little league and minor league baseball, later representing his high school on the baseball and basketball teams. Ned furthered his education at Misericordia University and developed a successful career as a skilled tradesman.
Ned became an expert in his field and enjoyed a diverse career, including roles as a commercial contractor, FEMA Inspector, and Gas Field Electrical Inspector. His tenure with FEMA was particularly distinguished, where he demonstrated exceptional leadership and composed decision-making during emergency situations, contributing to numerous disaster relief efforts.
Personal Passions and Community Involvement
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Ned was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and was renowned for his culinary skills, particularly his chili and spaghetti sauce. He was a devoted member of Our Lady of Victory Church, serving as an usher and contributing to community life.
Ned was a passionate supporter of Penn State athletics and a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees. He cherished attending Penn State games and was equally enthusiastic about participating in his grandchildren’s activities. His greatest joy in later years came from his grandsons, Gil and Connor, especially attending their sporting events.
