Israeli authorities confirmed on Thursday that the remains of Thai national Sudthisak Rinthalak have been recovered from Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip. Rinthalak, who was murdered during the Hamas-led attacks on October 7, 2023, had his body held captive until its recent recovery. The family has been informed that arrangements will be made for the repatriation of his remains to Thailand for burial, with coordination through the Thai Embassy in Israel.

The office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed its condolences, stating, “The Israeli government shares the deep sorrow of the Rinthalak family, the Thai people, and all the families of the slain abductees.” The statement highlighted Israel’s ongoing commitment to securing the release of the last remaining hostage in Gaza, Master Sgt. Ran Gvili, who serves in the Israel Police counterterror unit.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reported that Rinthalak was abducted from the orchards of Kibbutz Be’eri. His remains had been taken to Gaza, where they were held by the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization. Rinthalak was 42 years old at the time of his death, which was officially confirmed on May 16, 2024. He is survived by his parents and a brother.

The Israeli government reiterated its determination to secure Gvili’s return, stating, “The Hamas terrorist organization is required to fulfill its obligations to the mediators and return him as part of the ceasefire agreement’s implementation.” The Prime Minister’s office emphasized that they will not compromise on this issue and will exert every effort until he is safely back in Israel.

In their statement, the IDF extended its condolences to all affected families, affirming its commitment to continue efforts to return the remains of deceased hostages. The situation remains tense as Israel navigates the complexities of the ongoing conflict and the pressing need for humanitarian actions amidst the violence.
