Jamestown Dollars for Scholars has announced the establishment of the **Ethan Igl Memorial Scholarship**, which will be awarded annually to a graduating senior from either **Jamestown High School** or **Jamestown-BJA**. This scholarship, valued at **$1,000**, aims to support students pursuing post-secondary education in fields such as engineering, science, or music. The initiative was made possible by a generous contribution of **$20,000** from Ethan’s parents, **Larry and Amy Igl**, along with additional support from family, friends, and the local community.

Honoring a Passionate Student

Ethan Igl, who graduated from Jamestown High School in **2023**, was an active and passionate student. He demonstrated a love for learning and a commitment to his extracurricular activities, which included cross-country, swimming, and track, where he served as team captain. Additionally, he was an accomplished musician, playing both the trombone and piano, and participated in the high school jazz band and marching band, eventually becoming drum major in his junior year.

Involved in academics and community service, Ethan was a member of the **National Honor Society** and the **Science Olympiad team**. His dedication to scouting began in first grade, culminating in him achieving the rank of **Eagle Scout** during his senior year of high school. After graduating, he enrolled at **Iowa State University** to study electrical engineering.

Tragically, Ethan passed away on **September 3, 2024**, after an eight-month battle with cancer at the young age of 19. His legacy continues through this scholarship, which aims to support future students in their educational pursuits.

A Lasting Tribute

During the announcement, **DeAnn Ament**, the chapter president of Jamestown Dollars for Scholars, expressed gratitude for the significant contribution from Ethan’s family. “We are grateful for this generous gift from Ethan’s family and friends. Endowing a scholarship provides a lasting tribute to their much-loved son and brother and assists future high school graduates with their post-secondary education expenses,” Ament stated.

The establishment of the Ethan Igl Memorial Scholarship not only honors Ethan’s memory but also reflects the values he embodied during his high school years. The scholarship aims to inspire and assist future generations of students in the Jamestown community as they embark on their educational journeys.
