google-keep-integrates-reminders-with-tasks-in-new-update

Google Keep has begun rolling out a significant update that integrates its reminder functionality with Google Tasks. This change, first announced in October 2023, is part of a broader effort to streamline task management across Google’s suite of applications. As users receive the update, they will see a prompt stating, “Reminders are now Google Tasks” when accessing their notes.

The migration of reminders to Tasks addresses a longstanding feature of Google Keep, which has been widely used for jotting down notes and creating checklists. The new integration allows users to manage their reminders more effectively by consolidating them within the Tasks application. This transition follows an announcement made in April 2022 regarding the impending migration.

What Changes Users Can Expect

Once the update is active, tapping the bell icon in the top-right corner of a note will bring up a notification about the migration. Users will now have the ability to view, edit, and complete reminders not only from Keep but also from the Assistant, Calendar, and Gemini. The Tasks app will be identified by its distinctive blue icon at the top of the reminder sheet.

Despite these improvements, some options will be removed. The location-based reminders such as “Home,” “Work,” and “Pick a place” will no longer be available, as Google Tasks does not currently support these features. However, users can still set reminders for “Tomorrow morning,” “Tomorrow evening,” “Same day,” and “Next week,” as well as choose specific dates and times with repeat intervals.

Notifications and Access

As part of this update, Google Keep will cease sending notifications for reminders. Instead, notifications will be handled by Google Calendar and Tasks. Users can edit the date and time of reminders from any of the applications involved, while only the name of a reminder can be modified in Calendar or Tasks.

The integration is currently being rolled out to select accounts, and not all users will have access immediately. Those who have the latest version of Google Keep, specifically version 5.25.461.02.90, may be among the first to experience this change.

For users accustomed to Google Keep’s reminder functionality, this integration aims to enhance usability by providing a more unified experience across Google’s productivity tools. With these enhancements, Google continues to focus on improving task management for its users, ensuring that important reminders are easily accessible and manageable across platforms.
