Mary Kathleen ‘Kathy’ Frechette, a beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025, at the age of 68. Her death followed a brief battle with cancer, and she was surrounded by her loving family during her final moments.

Born on April 24, 1957, in Portsmouth, Virginia, Kathy was the daughter of the late Reginald Boley and Doris (Prud’homme) Norwood. For many years, she resided in Lowell, where she made significant contributions to her community.

Community Engagement and Family Life

Kathy was an active member of the Mill City Grows program, where she found immense joy in tending to local community gardens. Gardening was more than a hobby for her; it was a way to connect with nature and contribute positively to her surroundings. Above all else, Kathy cherished her roles as a mother and ‘Nannie,’ dedicating her life to raising her two children, Kevin Frechette and Diana Frechette, along with her ten grandchildren and one great-grandson, Jevaun.

Her family included grandchildren Jocynia, Haley, Simeon, Ayden, Jolie, Nina, Cristian, Aubrie, Joseph, and Gabriel, each of whom held a special place in her heart. Kathy’s nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family, as she was known for her kindness and willingness to help anyone in need.

A Life Filled with Adventure

Kathy’s love for the outdoors was evident throughout her life. She enjoyed gardening and camping, and in her younger years, she shared memorable hunting trips with her father. Kathy also relished taking motorcycle rides through the mountains, embracing the thrill and freedom of the open road.

She is survived by her former husband, Joseph S. Frechette, who resides in Florida, as well as her siblings: Linda Linehan and her husband, Paul; Leonard ‘Buddy’ Boley and his wife, Mary; Anita Santiago and her husband, Rigaberto; and Christopher Norwood. Kathy’s legacy also includes many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Kathy was predeceased by her sister, Pamela ‘Penny’ Simard, whose memory she cherished.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Kathy’s life at the M. R. Laurin & Son Funeral Home, located at 295 Pawtucket St., Lowell, on December 2nd from 16:00 to 19:00 (4 PM to 7 PM).
