A report from an Arkansas radio host suggested that South Florida head coach Alex Golesh was poised to become the next head coach at the University of Arkansas. However, as of Saturday, no official announcement had been made regarding the position, and Golesh’s name has emerged as a potential candidate to replace Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss, should Kiffin depart.

Following South Florida’s decisive victory over Rice with a score of 52-3 on November 30, 2025, Golesh addressed the situation during the post-game news conference. He emphasized his desire to focus on finishing the season strong, stating, “I told our team on Wednesday night when all that stuff came out, that all I ask is for an opportunity to finish the season the right way. I’ve not had the opportunity to process any of it.”

Golesh expressed frustration regarding the rumors, particularly given that this season has been one of his best at USF. “When you have success in this profession, everyone tries to move you along. I get it, I understand it,” he explained. He reiterated his commitment to his current team, apologizing for any distraction the rumors may have caused. “The last thing I would ever want to be would be a distraction to our team,” he added.

The head coach clarified that the reports about his potential move to Arkansas were unfounded. “It was nothing that I put out there. It wasn’t true. I told them that I didn’t put it out and it wasn’t true. And it wasn’t true. I asked for some time after we win this game to process everything that’s going on,” Golesh said.

With ongoing speculation surrounding Kiffin’s future at Ole Miss, the University of Arkansas may have to reassess its coaching search if Golesh remains committed to South Florida. As the situation develops, the Razorbacks’ search for a new head coach could take an unexpected turn after appearing to settle on a candidate.

As the college football season progresses, the pressure mounts for coaches and their teams. For Golesh, maintaining focus on the task at hand while navigating these rumors is crucial for both his career and the success of South Florida.
