Thomas Michael Ridpath, a respected community leader and dedicated family man, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2025, in Williamsburg, Virginia, at the age of 81. His life was characterized by a profound commitment to family, career, and community service.

Born on March 28, 1944, in Terre Haute, Indiana, Thomas grew up in Ft. Atkinson, Wisconsin. He graduated from Ft. Atkinson High School before pursuing higher education. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and later obtained a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Kansas University-Lawrence. During his college years, he was a proud member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity.

Professional Life and Community Contributions

After completing his education, Thomas moved to Washington D.C., where he began his career at NASA and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). He later transitioned to a successful role as an agent with State Farm Insurance, earning a reputation for integrity and dedication to his clients.

Beyond his professional achievements, Thomas was deeply involved in his community. He served in the Army National Guard during weekends and was an active member of the Burke Rotary and the local Methodist Church. His generous spirit and willingness to help others were hallmarks of his character.

Personal Life and Legacy

Thomas’s zest for life was evident in his many interests. An avid coin collector, he enjoyed bowling, golf, and was often found playing ping pong with friends and family. His passion for sports extended to coaching youth basketball, where he inspired young athletes with his leadership and encouragement. Additionally, he engaged in real estate investing, showcasing his enterprising spirit.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Perry Weldon Ridpath and Susan Louise (Taber) Ridpath, as well as his brother, Lt. Col. Robert Ridpath. He is survived by his devoted wife, Sharron Ridpath; his sons, Patrick (Elizabeth) Ridpath and Christopher (Brandy) Ridpath; and his beloved grandchildren, which include three granddaughters and one grandson. He is also fondly remembered by his sister-in-law, Beth Ridpath, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to celebrate the remarkable life of Thomas Michael Ridpath will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in his memory. Thomas will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him. His legacy of love, kindness, and service will continue to inspire and guide his family and friends.
