Flag football’s defending state champions solidified their places in next week’s Super 7 following decisive semifinal victories on November 25, 2025. Both the Central-Phenix City High School Red Devils and Montgomery Catholic Knights showcased their skills, securing wins that propel them to the championship stage.
Central-Phenix City, the top-ranked team in the Class 6A/7A category, triumphed over Smiths Station with a commanding score of 38-7. The match was concluded at the two-minute mark due to the mercy rule enforced by the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA). This victory marks the Red Devils’ third consecutive appearance in the state championship game, further enhancing their impressive record.
In a standout performance, senior wide receiver Amya Brooks caught three touchdown passes from quarterback Mariah Harrison. Brooks finished the game with seven receptions for 119 yards, while Harrison completed 16 of 24 passes for a total of 233 yards. Central-Phenix City established a substantial lead of 26-0 by halftime, pushing it to 32-0 in the third quarter before allowing a touchdown, ending their shutout streak at eight games.
Montgomery Catholic also demonstrated their prowess against Brewbaker Tech, winning 25-12. This win marks the Knights’ sixteenth consecutive victory, improving their season record to 21-4. Junior quarterback Hayden Fitts was pivotal in the match, completing 14 of 22 passes for 157 yards and four touchdowns, along with rushing for an additional 98 yards. The Knights’ coach, Whitney Toole, expressed pride in her team’s execution, highlighting their commitment and competitive spirit throughout the game.
As the Super 7 approaches, Central-Phenix City stands at 19-0, ranked third in the USA Today Top 25 and sixth in MaxPreps. They will face either No. 2 Vestavia Hills or No. 6 Spain Park for the title. The Rebel and Jaguar matchup is scheduled for noon on November 26, 2025, while Montgomery Catholic will await the outcome of the North semifinals between No. 1 Moody and No. 5 Boaz, set for 18:00 on the same day.
