Sandra Jean DeVos Huber, a cherished member of the Duanesburg community, passed away on November 10, 2025, at the age of 80. She was born on November 3, 1945, in Albany, New York, to William and Sophia DeVos. Sandra, affectionately known as Sandy, leaves behind a legacy of love, education, and community service.
A Lifelong Commitment to Education and Volunteering
Sandy graduated from SUNY Albany in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Her passion for reading, language, and communication flourished throughout her life. In 1968, she met Russell Huber, and the couple married in 1976. Together, they raised two sons, William Huber, who resides in Albany, and Carl Huber of Penfield, New York.
Her dedication to education was evident in her active participation in the Duanesburg Central School District. Sandy was involved in reading programs and the Parent-Teacher-Student Organization (PTSO). Additionally, she served as a den mother for the Boy Scouts, fostering a love of learning and community involvement among local youth.
Beyond her work with schools, Sandy volunteered extensively with various organizations. Notably, she contributed her time to PBS fundraising auctions and participated in the WMHT RISE program, reading for the print disabled. Her commitment to literacy and education left a significant impact on many lives.
Passions and Personal Life
In addition to her community service, Sandy enjoyed a rich personal life filled with diverse interests. She had a passion for mystery novels, stained glass art projects, and cooking. Sandy and her family often embarked on road trips, creating cherished memories together.
Sandy is preceded in death by her siblings, Catherine Agans and William DeVos, and is survived by her brother, Kenneth DeVos. She is remembered fondly by her devoted husband, Russ, her two sons, daughter-in-law, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 14:00 to 16:00 at the White-Van Buren Funeral Home, located at 1779 Main St., Delanson, New York. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to local PBS television or National Public Radio stations in Sandy’s name. Online condolences can be shared at whitevanburenfuneralhome.com.
