In a game filled with high stakes, Dawson showcased his all-around skills by catching a crucial go-ahead touchdown pass and recovering a pivotal onside kick. The senior receiver, standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 190 pounds, has become an essential asset for Oak Forest, demonstrating his competitive spirit and relentless drive on the field.

Kickoff for the upcoming semifinal match against Providence (9-3) is set for 1 p.m. in New Lenox, raising the stakes for Dawson and his teammates as they aim for a spot in the state championship game.

Dawson’s contributions this season have been remarkable; he has recorded 14 receptions for 316 yards and eight touchdowns, averaging an impressive 22.5 yards per catch. Additionally, he has rushed for a 44-yard touchdown and made significant defensive contributions, totaling 54 tackles, six interceptions, and three sacks, including three defensive touchdowns.

“Everything he does, he wants to win,” said Zac Sadek, in his first year as Oak Forest’s head coach. “There’s not a kid who is more competitively driven in everything he’s done.”

Dawson’s competitive nature is deeply ingrained, stemming from a childhood filled with sports and family influence. Growing up, he was encouraged by his parents, who introduced him to various sports, and his older brother, Joshua, who played a crucial role in his athletic development. “You have no idea how much he helped me,” Dawson remarked, highlighting the support that shaped his dedication to sports.

As Dawson prepares for the semifinals, he reflects on his journey and commitment to the Oak Forest Bengals. “We’re going in with the will to win,” he stated, emphasizing his unwavering determination. “I always go after it 100%, even if I’m blocking. I’ll do anything for this team and this program.”
