BREAKING: Indiana’s Recycling Market Development Board just announced a groundbreaking allocation of $42 million in grants to enhance recycling efforts across the state. This initiative, which includes funding for six key organizations, is expected to generate 42 jobs and divert an astounding 197,884 tons of recyclable materials from landfills annually.

Among the recipients, Goodwill Industries of Michiana, Inc. in Lake County will receive $301,011 to increase its recycling capacity by an additional 32,812 tons per year. Other grant beneficiaries include CT Polymers, Greencycle, Nexus IN RNG, Plastic Recycling Inc., and the Trustees of Indiana University, all of which are set to contribute significantly to Indiana’s recycling landscape.

IMMEDIATE IMPACT: This funding is part of a larger strategy by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management to boost local economies while promoting sustainability. The joint effort is expected to lead to over $15.7 million in total investments, marking a vital step in addressing waste management challenges in the region.

In related developments, Gov. Mike Braun has recently appointed several residents from Lake, Porter, and LaPorte counties to state boards and commissions. Key appointments include Elizabeth Bergeron to the Indiana Protection and Advocacy Services Commission and Rick Smith to the Underground Plant Protection Advisory Committee, among others.

ALERT: Indiana Dunes Tourism is also launching a new grant program, providing $50,000 for community projects aimed at attracting visitors to Porter County. Each plate purchase will contribute directly to scholarships for PNW students, with a $40 fee, of which $25 goes towards funding these scholarships.
