Pioneers Rest Cemetery is hosting its monthly cleanup day on August 20, 2023, inviting community members of all ages to participate in maintaining the cemetery’s beauty. The event is open to individuals, church groups, scout troops, and students from high schools and colleges. Participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to engage in various activities, including picking up trash, weeding and mulching, trimming trees, and cleaning headstones. Trash bags will be provided for litter collection, while the cemetery offers supplies and training for those interested in cleaning headstones. Additionally, volunteers will have the chance to treat fire ant beds, with all necessary materials supplied.

Event Details and What to Bring

The cleanup day is designed to be flexible, allowing participants to contribute as much time as they can. Water and snacks will be provided to keep volunteers refreshed. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own tools and equipment, as well as personal items such as sunscreen and insect repellent.

While the event is open to everyone, the organizers emphasize that participation is subject to weather conditions.

This initiative not only enhances the cemetery’s appearance but also fosters community spirit and engagement. Those interested in volunteering are encouraged to come out and make a difference in maintaining the historic site.
