The New York Jets are contemplating a major change at quarterback following a disappointing 27-14 loss to the New England Patriots on November 9, 2025. First-year head coach Aaron Glenn initially praised quarterback Justin Fields for his performance during the game. However, after reviewing the film, Glenn stated he is now “evaluating” the quarterback situation ahead of their next match against the Baltimore Ravens on November 23.

During a media session on Friday, Glenn responded to questions regarding the possibility of benching Fields in favor of backup Tyrod Taylor. “I’m evaluating everything,” he said. “I’m evaluating myself, the players, schematics, coaches. I’m evaluating everything, so I don’t want to just place everything on that one situation.” His comments suggest a willingness to consider all options to improve the team’s performance.

Fields struggled against the Patriots, completing just 15 of 26 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown. This marked the fifth time in nine starts this season that he failed to pass for at least 120 yards. His inconsistent performances have raised concerns among former NFL players, including Willie Colon, Tony Gonzalez, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Richard Sherman, who criticized Glenn for not benching Fields during the game. They argued that the decision was detrimental to the Jets’ chances of winning.

While Taylor, 36, is not seen as a long-term solution for the Jets, his experience could provide a needed change. The Jets’ upcoming mini-bye week offers an opportunity for Glenn to reassess the team’s direction. Historically, teams have used these breaks to implement significant changes.

Glenn emphasized that he is not inclined to make alterations simply for the sake of a “spark” against the Ravens. He recognizes the potential risk of losing the locker room if Fields continues to struggle. The decision ahead remains crucial, as the Jets aim to turn their season around after a challenging start.

As the Jets prepare for their next game, all eyes will be on Glenn’s decision regarding the quarterback position. Will he stick with Fields or opt for the veteran presence of Taylor? The choice could define the Jets’ trajectory as they seek to improve their 2-8 record this season.
